The Scout Fellowship is a team of people who work together to provide active support to those involved in Scouting, help the community and have fun.
The way the support is provided depends on the type of Fellowship and the skills within the team. It is open to anyone age 18 and over, there is no upper age limit.
Members do not have to wear uniform and may be either Full or Associate members. Full members make the Scout Promise and may wear uniform if they wish. Many Fellowships have a sweatshirt and/or a T- Shirt with their own choice of logo. A Scout Fellowship necker is available ( purple with a lime green border and an embroidered fleur de lys).
Leaders may join as long as they are 18 or over and understand that membership of the Fellowship is secondary to their position as a Leader. Fellowship members pay the national membership subscription.
Hyndburn Scout Fellowship has 17 members at present ranging in age from the 40's to the late 70's. We work mainly in ones, twos , and threes. helping out at events such as St Georges Day Parade, the District AGM, Sports and Fun Days , the swimming gala , Cub and Scout Competitions or the staff at Bowley Camp Site etc. One or two will also help with marquee erection and dismantling.
A few also choose to be members of Hyndburn Fellowship although no longer living in the area but can still be involved in Scouting wherever they are. Basically, the Fellowship is an "umbrella", members are covered by the Scout Association insurance by paying the membership fee, it is about "doing what you can , when you can". It allows members, who for whatever reason, cannot commit themselves to a leadership permit to carry on Scouting in a supportive role.
In Hyndburn , the District Commissioner has always been one of our members , attends our meetings and is able to keep us informed when and where help is needed. At present we meet quarterly at the ADC (SF)'s home. These are business meetings , but there is time for tea and coffee, a chat and an opportunity to catch up on current events. We have one social event a year when we meet up for a meal at Christmas time.
